Baby Guinness at Itaewon

Baby Guinness

Lately, I have been thinking and missing ... yes, fish and chips a lot.
I missed the English way of having gravy over it.
Thinking about it, my stomach is growling again ...
A quick check on the internet directed me to Baby Guinness at Itaewon.

cr : http://www.onlyitaewon.com/
Quaint little place with these irish vibe.

Ordered a somersby (10,000won) to go with my fish and chips. (13,000won)
Although I was pretty sure my Fish & Chips is not coming the English way ....
I have not decided what country's fish and chips is this.

Decent fries. Better then a lot of thin fries in Korea.

The fish served was catfish (the other only choice was cod, and I doesnt eat codfish).
Flaky and juicy enough. Although I wish I had haddock as a choice.
But the portion was big enough for two and although nothing much to rave, there is nothing to rant either.
Managed by Koreans themselves, these place seems to be a fun watering spot.

Overall, I might come back again if my craving does not goes away.
Either that or I might try making my own fish and chips !

Getting here : Itaewon Station Exit 1

역전우동0410 ; Yeokjeon udon 0410

Stumble across this precious maybe about 10-seater restaurant late one night when i was warm and hungry. And the food places around my area had closed...
And it have since became one of my favourite.

What makes this place extra special is that it is 24hours.

what kind of god sent is this ?
And, do you spot this machine that I see ?

Avoid awkward conversation with the staffs!
Hold your horses people. Before you go and order your stuffs,
here are some translation of the foods they have.
Now, you may click away.

For the vegetarian, the veggie fritters looks kinda safe but not sure if the broth contains meat. But pretty safe to eat will be the bibim udon (mixed udon) or bibim soba (mixed soba) (not in picture).

Step 1 : Choose your food.

Step 2 : pay for it by clicking either the money bag or card.
A sign will come out asking you "마장"or "포장" which means having here or take away.
After clicking "마장" which means having here.
And then you find a seat and wait for your food ~ ^^

Personal Favourite : Beef- related. Love their beef udon, their Beef-covered rice and all things beef. *insert a beef dance (not sure how it works but lets pretend there is) *

The Bibim Soba that looks relatively safe for Halal eaters and Vegetarian.

Nomnomnomnonmnom.
Highly recommend people to try the veggie fritters. I love it ~

This place is kinda inexpensive and pretty quiet and fast.
Price starts from 3,000krw and up !

-------------------------------------

They have a lot of franchises, but here is the one I went to.

How to go : Get out of Apgujeong Station Exit 5. Keep walking straight for around 5 minutes and you will come to a gas station. Turn left. The outlet is directly opposite the gas station.

Address: 서울시 강남구 신사동 579번지 카로시티2 105호.

Caffe Bene; 카페베네

Its Summer !!!
It is so freaking warm. Sometimes I just feel like lazing on the bed with the fan blowing and never having to move a single inch.

Cafes in Korea are also pushing out summer special, such as Patbingsoo (shaved ice) to help fend off the heat.
So, Caffe Bene is introducing 3 flavours.

Kiwi Patbingsoo - 9,800krw

Caramel Popcorn Patbingsoo

New York Cheesecake Patbingsoo - 13,500krw

Being a major cheesecake maniac, how could I ever miss this.
So, i went on a major hunt for it with my best bud (cos how could i ever finish one on my own) ?

I have never liked Caffe bene before, cos their coffee taste real bad.
Like real real bad. I have never taste a franchise coffee that tasted so bad.
That kind of bad.
But they are pretty well known for other stuffs like waffle and honey bread etc.
And so far, almost all the Caffe bene i went to, have polite service staff.

So, back to topic,  when i first gotten the patbingsoo, it looks as though someone shot down the statue of liberty.
This should have been the first sign.
The patbingsoo is accompanied with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream , cheesecake that is practically just cheese in the shape of a cake, statue of liberty made of white chocolate, her blood berry jam, shaved ice and saltine crackers in between.

This patbingsoo is just like their coffee. BAD.
This mixture is just so bland. Who eats saltine cracker with ice ?
Everything just went so off. Thankfully the bottom ice has milk in it, so it was not that bad but not good enough to save the day.
But overall, I rather changed the 13,500krw i spent on this into coin and pelt it at passing cars.
It will be less painful then having to finish this bowl of ... dead statue of liberty.

TSK.

Lotteria.

With 900 over stores in Korea, expanding into Japan, Vietnam, China and Indonesia, Lotteria is hard to miss.
To me, Lotteria is an airport comfort food.
Wherever I am at Incheon Airport, Lotteria is my go to place.

I absolutely love the regular shrimp burger they have here.
The crunch of the patty with every sinking bite of mine, drives my tastebud wild.
This time, I had the opportunity to try the promotional "Wild Shrimp Burger".

The set meal for the "Wild Shrimp Burger" is priced at 6,200 won. 1,200 more then the regular shrimp burger.

Put Sauce He
"Because of the risk of disease soon after purchase lift." I cant elevator it.
The beauty of Lotteria (or at least the one at the airport) is that orders are only cooked/made after you order it. So i get hot fried cripsy prawn patty. *CRUNCH CRUNCH*

I ordered my burger without vegetable.
The burger came with thousand island, tartar sauce and *GASP* pickles.
I totally cant grasp the idea of having pickles in a non-tomato sauce and steak/beef environment.
Guess thats where the "wild" idea came in.

As with the shrimp burger, the WILD shrimp burger patty is loaded with bits of prawn.
For that 1,200won extra i paid, i figured i paid that for pickles and thousand island sauce (instead of just tartar). And whoooo boy, would i gladly go back to the shrimp burger.
And did i mention, the shrimp burger is lower in calories ( 100kcal worth. Guess thats how much calories pickles and thousand island sauce is )

I'll recommend just ordering the regular Shrimp Burger. Which is pretty good enough.

Information : Lotteria is fortunately found across Korea

Address: Incheon Airport, 3F, Near Check-in Counter D

길모퉁이 칠리차차. Cornerside Chilli Cha Cha.

Chilly Cha Cha have somehow became more and more famous with their introductions by eatyourkimchi & cuteinkorea.

The first time i tried it, i had instantly became hooked on it.
I absolutely love the place, the food and the owner who blast hip hop music.

The few occasion that i goes on always land around 3-4-ish with hardly any customers.
I read reviews that said that sometimes they are so full, you have to take away.

Brown building with random flower and butterflies.
Small seatings designed to fit no more then 20 people at a time.

Self-service. :)

There is something interesting in Korea that i havent seen in anywhere else yet.
The toilet key.
Only in Korea, i realise that when you wants to use the toilet, you have to borrow the key, which i have indicated in the photo above with an arrow.
It is pretty funny because are not toilets for everyone and anyone who needs it ?
Why restrict the use of toilet with a key ? Hmmmm....

Translated to english. :)
Halal/ Vegetarian Alert ! Although I am not sure, but so far the pumpkin, basil cream, corn corokke and fried tofu skin udon seems to contain not meat. (I cant say the same for the rest as some places includes meat in their potato corokke and such).

Our Spread ~
Udon, the best companion to beat the cold.
Chilly Cha Cha's Udon is so simple yet satisfying.
The mild sweetness of the soup is awaken with every stir as chilli flakes are roused up.
Can be shared between 2 if want to eat more Corokke.

All the fried goodies.
The batter for the fried goodies are really awesome.
The squid tastes pretty meh but the prawns are really good.
Chilli cha cha have its own "sweet sauce" to dip into which gives it the extra oomph.

Wholesome loads of pumpkin.
For the pumpkin lovers, sweet and loaded.

Basil Cream Corokke, giving heart attack the right reason.
I crave for this, day and night.
This corokke which i have nicknamed "OUTTATHEWORLD corokke" is filled with cream, cheese and mixed grains like barley. The taste of basil is well measured, nothing too overbearing and combined together, they give it a nice chewy texture. How can anyone hate this ?

Instagram-ed !
