Baby Guinness at Itaewon

Baby Guinness

Lately, I have been thinking and missing ... yes, fish and chips a lot.
I missed the English way of having gravy over it.
Thinking about it, my stomach is growling again ...
A quick check on the internet directed me to Baby Guinness at Itaewon.

cr : http://www.onlyitaewon.com/
Quaint little place with these irish vibe.

Ordered a somersby (10,000won) to go with my fish and chips. (13,000won)
Although I was pretty sure my Fish & Chips is not coming the English way ....
I have not decided what country's fish and chips is this.

Decent fries. Better then a lot of thin fries in Korea.

The fish served was catfish (the other only choice was cod, and I doesnt eat codfish).
Flaky and juicy enough. Although I wish I had haddock as a choice.
But the portion was big enough for two and although nothing much to rave, there is nothing to rant either.
Managed by Koreans themselves, these place seems to be a fun watering spot.

Overall, I might come back again if my craving does not goes away.
Either that or I might try making my own fish and chips !

Macaron Ice Cream ; 마카롱 아이스크림

Macaron Ice Cream ; 마카롱 아이스크림

A fad that started creeping in about a year ago, but started catching on during the hot summer in Korea. The chewy macaron shells goes hand in hand with the melty ice cream itself making it a sticky but cool treat.
Usually sold as ice cream sandwich in between 2 macaron shells, these treat have become my personal favourite as well. Here are some places to try them in Korea !

Antique
Located in the small and unusual alley of the Hongdae street, serves the best Macaron Ice cream I ever had.
Each macaron ice cream is freshly made in the shop and even though they have 8 flavours up on the sign, usually they only have 4-5 flavours each day. From Green tea to Cheesecake to Mango, there is a definite choice for each and everyone. Each treat is priced at 4,500won. Their panna cotta is worth a try too. Do take note that this is not a cafe, take-out only !

I have tried the Cheesecake, Yogurt and Cherry flavour before but nothing comes close to my personal favourite : Strawberry.
Top with dried strawberries, each bite is a mix of sweetness with a tinge of sourness.

Try to eat it fast as the macaron shells tends to harden within 5 minutes, making it from chewy shell to just pure hard shell. *knock knock macarons ~ *

Nearest Station : Exit 8 of Hongik University Station.

A la papa Cafe
Not to be judge by their name, A la papa Cafe is a highly rated cafe with a loyal fanbase.
Known for its cosiness atmosphere and interesting layout, A la papa Cafe definitely stands out as a special cafe in the Edae/Sinchon area !
If/When you manage to go up the rather dangerous/steep staircase, be greeted with the cutest second floor ever ! I personally call it second and a half floor. heehee.
Look at the pictures to know why !

The macarons fridge are displayed outside the shop. After a short debate with my friends about why it was there, (citing excuses like attracting crowds to it etc), after asking the shop staff, they just simply reply, because there was no space in the shop itself. HAHAHHAHA.
The macarons here are priced at 4,000won, and are available in basic flavours Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla and Green Tea.

After trying the Vanilla macaron ice cream, I conclude that, it is nothing special.
Despite that, I will still encourage people to patronise this cafe. Simply because it is so cute !
And psst, they sell main course such as Chicken Teriyaki Fried Rice for 6,500won and homemade lemonade for 5,000won ~

Nearest Station : Exit 1 of Ehwa Woman University Station

Paris Baguette
If you have been to Korea, you surely have seen Paris Baguette, one of the most successful bakery chain in Korea.
Paris Baguette is not one to lose out to trends too. Having pushed out many trends themselves, they have caught on to the macaron ice cream fever too !

Available in Cookie and Blueberry flavour, I decided to try the Cookie one.
For 3,500won and being widely available, it is not a bad choice.
Except that if you can overlook the macaron shell being overly hard ...
Like brick hard kind of hard. Excuse me, while I use it as a door wedge.

Everything but the Hero.

Everything but the Hero cafe.

A hidden cafe frequent only by locals.
But recently got a lot in the news.
This cafe is owned by Jo In Sung's brother.
Plus, Jo In Sung have been spotted at the cafe, once with Gong Hyo Jin and crew and once being taken by Cha Tae Hyun.

Used to be a fan of Jo In Sung (before his popularity boom thanks to "that's okay, it's love"), I decided to pop by the cafe when I was in the vicinity.

Jo In Sung's brother (pretty charismatic as well, i should say) is frequently at the cafe, so for those who are a major fan, these is probably the closest you can get to him.
The drinks a little on the pricer end but under 10,000won.
Understandable , as the cafe is situated in the area of the rich.
The cafe, as I was told only have 1 level. If you sit near the window, you can even see Namsan Tower.

Latte Macchiato
Coffee is not bad.
Comes with a complementary cube of chocolate.
Not much food choices, mostly drinks.
